Drug therapeutic effects:
The liver is one of the most important organs in the body and is responsible for various important functions including the body’s metabolism and is constantly exposed to many toxins and metabolites. Therefore, it faces many threats from drugs, substances, and microorganisms. Hepatoprotective medications are less available, and liver disease caused by factors such as viral hepatitis and drugs is also somewhat common. Therefore, it is important to use medicinal herbs in the treatment of liver disorders. Blood Purifier Booalidaroo Syrup is a combination of two herbs, fumaria parviflora and tamarindus indica. According to the traditional medicine, it is recommended for the treatment of liver diseases. fumaria parviflora is an herbaceous plant with blood purifying, antipyretic, liver regulatory and stomach tonic properties. The aerial part of this plant contains alkaloids, flavonoids, salts, potassium and phenol, and its pharmacological effects are related to this group of compounds. Its phenolic compounds relieve skin itching and eczema, and the presence of salts induce the diuretic property of fumaria parviflora. This herb has a crystalline organic acid called fumaric acid and an alkaloid called fumarin, which has hepatoprotective properties. The leaves of tamarindus indica are useful in reducing inflammation of wounds and its fruit has anti-jaundice effect. Its leaves are used to treat inflammation, baldness, and smallpox. Its flowers are useful for treating urinary disorders and its ripe fruit is appetizing, laxative and heart tonic. Its seeds are also useful for eliminating liver problems. Tamarindus indica has anti-toxic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, considering the presence of important compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids.
An animal study investgated the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of fumaria parviflora and carbon tetrachloride toxin on male rat liver cells. The results of this study showed that fumaria parviflora hydroalcoholic extract in the concentration range of 700 μg / ml-3.5 mg / ml has a protective effect on hepatocytes against carbon tetrachloride toxin.
A clinical trial investigated the effect of fumaria parviflora alcoholic extract in the treatment of hand eczema. In this study, patients were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received a cream containing 4% fumaria parviflora alcoholic extract and the control group received a placebo that had no extract twice a day for four weeks. Examination of the eczema severity index and extent score showed a significant difference between these two groups in terms of this index score before and two weeks after treatment and the fumaria parviflora alcoholic extract is useful in the treatment of patients with hand chronic skin eczema.
An animal study investigated the effect of tamarindus indica ethanolic extract in the treatment of liver injury on 5 rat groups (n= 6 pergroup) treated with carbon tetrachloride. The first group (control) was treated with 1 ml / kg of normal saline a day, the second group (negative control) was treated with carbon tetrachloride, The third group received tamarindus indica ethanolic extract. (150 ml / kg/day) with carbon tetrachloride. The fourth group received the standard silymarin with carbon tetrachloride and the fifth group received tamarindus indica ethanolic extract alone (150 ml / kg/day). Five-day examination of liver enzymes, hematological parameters, albumin and bilirubin parameters, and total protein showed that tamarindus indica ethanolic extract improves CCl4-induced damage by reducing ALT, AST, ALP, and bilirubin levels. This study also shows the hepatoprotective effects of tamarindus indica extract.
