Itching is an internal, mental sensation and the itching response is a spinal reflex. Itching is believed to be resulted from stimulation of itching receptors in the skin or by responding to the stimulation of the skin pain receptors by touch, the central nervous system (CNS) interprets these stimuli as itching. Wound healing is a hemostatic mechanism to restore physiological balance. This process involves a series of events, including inflammatory responses, epidermal reproduction, ulcer healing, ultimately connective tissue formation . Medications that are effective in accelerating wound healing, especially harmless herbal remedies, are being developed. A study investigated the effect of flaxseed oil on wound healing in rats, its obtained results showed that the wound healing process was faster in the treated groups, compared to the control group.
In another animal study, 60 rabbits were randomly assigned to four experimental groups to evaluate the local effect of flaxseed oil and alcoholic extract of cinnamon on surgical wound healing. Group 1 was treated without placebo, group 2 with placebo ointment, group 3 with flaxseed oil ointment, group 4 with ointment containing a combination of flaxseed oil and hydroalcoholic extract of cinnamon. The wound area was measured on days 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 using a transparent paper. The results of this study showed an increase in wound healing rate, also a decrease in wound area in groups 3 and 4
